MANDOLIN "The Vernon" (Antique)
"The Vernon" - C. Bruno & Son, New York. This is a gorgeous wee bowlback mandolin dating probably from either of the first two decades of the twentieth century, tho' this distributor began his practice of labelling other manufacturers instruments with his own brand from the 1830's. "The Vernon" appears to be a brand name associated with Bruno, a large New York distributor. Various mandolins labeled "Vernon" have been attributed to Stromberg-Voisinet (predecessor of Kay), Harmony and Weymann. Exquisite detailing and craftsmanship like one doesn't see often today, and to think it has survived in such great condition and remains as playable today as it did the day it was made speaks volumes about this little charmer!
